Overview & Purpose

Discussion is important to learning in all disciplines because it helps students process information rather than simply receive it. Questioning is the key means by which teachers find out what pupils already know, identify gaps in knowledge and understanding. This lesson plan is a friendly question and answer discussion!

Materials Needed:
  • Paper with questions (available on the right)
  •
  • Scissors or cutting board
  • (Optional) box or carton for papered questions
Instructions:
  1. Go around the class with the questions in your hand, allowing students to pick out a question at random and asking it to the teacher (optional: to the student peer tutor).
  2. Allow teacher or student peer tutor to answer question.
  3. Ask a question for the class to answer.
  4. Choose among the hands raised for the correct response, allowing the student to choose another question to ask.
  5. (Optional): allow a free question period for students to ask their appropriate questions to the teacher or student peer tutor.
