How To Stop Feeling Like A Burden

Here is an immediate relief: no one on this Earth who only has good intentions is a burden.

When you feel like a burden, you may feel guilt and shame towards being your true authentic self. You may feel you should stay quiet. You may feel that your words and presence are worthless. You may want to throw the towel in and give up.

In school and work, these are heavy emotions. You may only do what you are asked, or even worse, only speak when spoken to or needed.

No one is born thinking “I am an inconvenience.” This is only an identity given to you by someone or something irrelevant to you doing well and pushing forward.

Rather than putting the weight from others’ actions onto you, move away from them.

Here are common reasons why you may feel like a burden:

1. You were treated badly and made to believe it was your fault

2. You were targeted based on an aspect of you (race, culture, religion, gender, finances, career, successes, lack of successes, etc.)

3. You were avoided by the most important person or people in your life

4. You were forced to keep pushing forward when your closest were against you or jealous

5. You were made to believe your dreams were worthless, or you yourself do not know who you are

Here are common ways to stop feeling like a burden:

1. Stick close to the people who love you for who you are, without any other identifiable qualities/factors being a condition (race, culture, religion, gender, finances, career, successes, lack of successes, etc.)

2. Never allow people who treat you like a burden to stick around or check in when their behaviour is more than likely to happen tenfold

3. Know that if you only have good intentions, you did nothing wrong and are perfect as you are

4. Remember that sad people want to give happy people their identity, for the most part

5. Remind yourself that right now, just as you are, you have nothing more to “do” to be comfortable, secure, and confident
