How Gender Affects A Student's Education
In which ways does gender affect a students’ educational abilities?
There are more common gender stereotypes associated with intelligence and ability for men than women.
Though there is a recent positive change regarding equality, these world leaders are discouraging women into pursuing careers outside of this stereotypical field.
Though gender equality is a legal right in Canada, world leaders and advertisements could indirectly encourage women to pursue careers that may not require high-intellectual ability.
Leading back to education and schooling, when someone is taught to not worry about pursuing high intelligence careers, they would not bother putting the work effort in if they know trying their best would not be necessary for their future plans.
Regarding our society, there is much gender division and discrimination in school environments, men tending to have more vocal and physical dominance. This sort of dominance may cause certain people to shy away from pushing themselves, but another topic to mention is the influence for girls to become direct family contributors, following traditions, getting married young and caring for children.
It should be important to mention that men and other genders suffer from these influences as well, possibly with more or less pressure to pursue a certain career based on their gender.
To conclude, gender affects a student's educational abilities through stereotypes and influences, but this norm can be changed with the social recognition of this issue.
